On Monday July 23rd, Newton resident Julie Kahn, was honored by the Jewish National Fund for her work with the non-profit. She was honored at their annual New England golf tournament held at the Spring Valley Country Club in Sharon, MA.
Giving back to the community has always been a big part of Julie’s life. Growing up in Detroit, she was greatly influenced by her parents community involvement, who instilled strong Jewish values and a desire to help those in need.
When Julie was 17 years old she travelled to Israel on her father’s behalf to accept an honorary doctorate from Bar Ilan. It was during that trip that Julie fell in love with the country. “I spent a few weeks traveling in Israel and was incredibly moved by what they accomplished there in such little time” she shared. “I’ve done a lot of traveling around the world, but Israel is the most magnificent place, like no other.”
When JNF approached Julie about honoring her at the golf tournament, she thought that it was a perfect way for her to combine two of her passions: helping others and Israel. The 110-year-old nonprofit organization improves quality of life in Israel through its community building, environmental and education work.
